As a foundational industry that helped build our province’s cities and towns—and is now essential to build electric vehicle, iPhones and clean technology—innovation has always been key to our success.
Throughout Mining Month, we will take the opportunity to share stories of innovation and change within our industry, in the past, the present and future. We will highlight the exceptional people, ideas and technologies that have advanced our industry, and with it, British Columbia. We will also peer into the future, where today’s innovation and technology is reducing environmental impacts, enhancing operational efficiency and generating more sustainable value creation for all British Columbians.
During May we will show how BC’s mining industry is playing a leadership role in providing the minerals and metals the world needs to transition to a cleaner, low carbon future; mining sustainably and safely; and advancing economic reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. And we will demonstrate how our industry is embracing Innovation as the world pivots to a lower carbon future with greater emphasis on environmental, social and governance performance.
New to Mining Month, MABC is hosting a series of online, lunchtime, panel discussions with industry experts focused on Innovation and ESG, including:
Diversity and Inclusion in Mining – Wednesday, May 5 - 12 noon to 1:00 pm
Through a partnership with Women in Mining BC, this timely panel discussion features BC mining leaders who will share their experience and perspectives on increasing diversity and inclusion at the mine site, in the C-suite and the boardroom. Fiona Famulak, President and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce will moderate. Panelists include:

- Bob Quartermain, Founder and Former Chairman, Pretium Resources

Environmental Innovation and Decarbonization in Mining – Wednesday, May 12 - 12 noon to 1:00 pm
Join industry experts and thought leaders for an informative discussion on how our industry is reducing its carbon footprint and preparing for the net zero mine. Moderated by Hayley Woodin, Executive Editor, Business in Vancouver. Panelists include:

Indigenous Peoples in Mining – Wednesday, May 19 - 12 noon to 1:00 pm
Knowledge keepers and subject matter experts will discuss reconciliation, UNDRIP and what’s required to advance meaningful relationships and partnerships to achieve shared objectives between Indigenous peoples and Industry. Dave Nikolejsin, Strategic Advisor, McCarthy Tetrault will moderate. Panelists include:
