BC’s mining sector places a high priority on the health and safety of its workers, and we take our responsibility to protect our communities seriously. The Mining Association of BC is in constant contact with our members to keep informed about the status of their operations and any developments at their sites.
On March 18, the Chief Inspector of Mines communicated to all major mines, sand and gravel, and placer operations in BC to ensure they are complying with the orders and directives issued by the provincial health officer in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. The full statement can be viewed here.
BC’s mining operations will continue to follow the guidance and direction of our Provincial and Canadian health agencies to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 and keep workers, their families and communities safe. Mining operations are restricting access at mine sites to essential staff members who have not travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days, and heightened hygiene and social distancing programs are being put in place. Corporately, many of our members’ employees are now working from home and, in accordance with federal direction, all employees are being asked to avoid non-essential travel outside of Canada. Employees returning from anywhere outside of Canada are required to self-quarantine for 14 days.
